JEDDAH: The official announcement allowing vaccinated individuals to travel abroad as of May 17 came as a huge sigh of relief to many Saudis who were forced to stay grounded due to the ongoing coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.
However, the ever-changing COVID-19 measures in different countries could still cause problems, even for vaccinated Saudi travelers.
One concern is the potential extra costs involved as some countries may require visitors to quarantine upon arrival.
Some young Saudis say they would prefer to stay at home this summer. Twenty-five-year-old Ali Hussain feared spending his entire vacation in quarantine: “Your vacation is a limited number of days to begin with, and such sudden measures are a hindrance.” ....

Student program reaches thousands of new gifted children across Saudi Arabia


More than 24,000 students from across Saudi Arabia registered in the program in its 11th year.
They sat for Multiple Cognitive Aptitude Test, which is organized annually by Mawhiba, with the Ministry of Education and the National Center for Assessment.
The 11,000 gifted students will be awarded with access to Mawhiba’s specialized services.
The test assesses scientific and mechanical reasoning, mathematical and spatial reasoning, linguistic reasoning and reading comprehension, as well as mental flexibility.
The test is available in Arabic and English through more than 100 centers for students starting in the third grade.
More than 430,000 students have taken the test over the past 11 years and more than 144,000 gifted students have benefited from the different services and programs Mawhiba provides. ....

Experts to resume excavation work on Saudi archaeological sites


RIYADH: The Saudi Heritage Authority is preparing to resume survey and archaeological excavations in the Kingdom after the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) outbreak forced projects to be suspended for almost a year.
The projects will be carried out in partnership with international missions from universities and specialized international research centers.
Teams from various Saudi universities also have been invited to contribute to the survey and excavation operations, and to help unearth antiquities in various regions in the Kingdom.
The Heritage Authority is responsible for conducting archaeological surveys and excavations to discover the rich cultural history of the Kingdom.
Before the pandemic, more than 40 international and local teams were taking part in archaeological excavations in Saudi Arabia. During their research, they discovered traces of ancient human settlements in the Arabian Peninsula, which were published in a string of scientific publications. ....
