North County parents and students pushing for a full reopening of in-person instruction at two school districts plan to gather Monday morning to rally for their cause.
Several parents have been vocal about their dissatisfaction with San Marcos and Oceanside Unified School Districts’ timeline and capacity on reopening classrooms and have held protests in the past voicing their concerns. They say the slow reopening process has hindered their children’s academic and mental health while they’ve been learning remotely due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Oceanside Unified Board votes against reopening elementary full-time, rally scheduled -

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – In spite of the plan’s approval from the Oceanside Unified School District, the Board voted against reopening elementary grades full-time on April 13.
The Board says they need to review health rules and need more time to consult with their union.
Meanwhile, San Marcos Unified will be considering ways to expand their in-person instruction at a Board meeting on April 20.
The Parent Association, a group advocating for reopening all San Diego County schools for full-time, in-person instruction, will be closely monitoring that next meeting.
A rally for in-person learning five days a week will be held on April 19 at 9 a.m. at the San Marcos Unified School District Office, located at 255 Pico Avenue, San Marcos, CA 92069. ....

Students and parents in San Marcos, Calif., are outraged over a video of a teacher berating students and parents for wanting to return to in-person learning.

The video went viral over the weekend and parents and students are speaking out about the unhinged English teacher, Alissa Piro.
“It was upsetting and actually pretty shocking” Kimberly Imhoff told “Fox News Primetime.” “Whether our kids are in the classroom or they’re on a Zoom call, we’re putting our kids in the care of the teachers and we’re expecting that they’re going to be treated with respect and courtesy, and that’s clearly not what was going on during that particular Zoom class,” she said. ....

SAN MARCOS (KUSI) – A high school teacher was caught on Zoom ranting at students over parents’ complaints on virtual instruction and desires to return to in-person classes.
The video of Alissa Piro, an English teacher at San Marcos High School shows her telling students she dares their parents to speak to her over issues surrounding virtual classes.
San Marcos Unified School District interim superintendent Tiffany Campbell said in a statement that an employee had been placed on administrative leave.
