NDIS fraud: Cash, cars and crypto seized in Western Sydney raids

Share A western Sydney fraud ring alleged to have stolen more than $10 million from the National Disability Insurance Scheme has been smashed following nearly a dozen raids and the arrests of six people on Tuesday. More than 150 members of the Australian Federal Police and partner agencies including AUSTRAC were present during the operation, which yielded $600,000 in cash, $635,176 in cryptocurrency and three cars including a BMW M3, an Audi Q7 and a Porsche Cayenne. Search warrants were executed in Lidcombe, Bass Hill, Monterey, Merrylands, Granville, South Granville, Bankstown and Ryde.  AFP Commander Kirsty Schofield said money was the key motivation for the alleged fraudsters and the investigation was active and ongoing, with further arrests anticipated.

The Australian Federal Police allege the western Sydney syndicate fleeced more than $10million in NDIS funding in what s alleged to be the largest exploitation of the agency in its eight-year history. Cops allegedly uncovered a treasure trove of expensive goods, including flashy cars, gold bullion, cryptocurrency, hundreds of thousands in cash when they executed 11 search warrants across Sydney on Tuesday. They also claim to have found  a significant amount of jewellery and a small amount of white powder suspected to be border-controlled drugs .
