Pressure mounts to save Grantham old hospital building for the community

Pressure is mounting on the owners of the old hospital on Manthorpe Road to save the building for the community.
A couple who have launched a campaign to save the building are calling for it to be formally made an asset of community value and another campaign has also been launched by a local man on Facebook.
The old hospital on Manthorpe Road, Grantham, has fallen into disrepair. (44599701)
Daniel and Jackie Beck launched the âSave the Cottage Hospitalâ campaign and want South Kesteven District Council to help save the building as an asset for the community. ....

Little Ponton Hall was built in about 1725 by William Thorold.
After several owners and tenants, the Turnor family of Stoke Rochford purchased it in 1863.
The whalebone arch, in what is now Whalebone Lane, became the target of souvenir-hunters and eventually collapsed. (43739062)
It was previously thought that Christopher Turnor installed the whalebone arch on the approach drive, now called Whalebone Lane, to create a theatrical, picturesque welcome to the hall.
The whalebone arch, once 18 feet tall, was much older, however. ....

Sculptures form festive trail along Grantham street

A trail of sculptures which convey thoughts on lockdown has been installed as part of the townâs Christmas lights.
The six temporary sculptures by local artists will remain on display in Westgate until January 6.
Historic England awarded South Kesteven District Council funding to run the project as part of the Governmentâs High Street Heritage Action Zone programme announced earlier this year.

The sculptures have been sited using six of the existing Christmas tree mounts on Narrow Westgate. They are lit up at night.
Inspiration for the sculptures has come from residents and community groups and concepts are as diverse as wildlife, angels, bicycle wheels and bubbles. ....
