Granville July 4 street fair, fireworks another step toward normal

View Comments
In what might be the strongest evidence yet of a return to something like the “old normal,” Granville’s Fourth of July weekend kicked off Friday afternoon.
The community celebration did that with a downtown full of carnival rides and concession stands. Elephant ears, lemon shake-ups, dodge- em cars and a Ferris wheel were all back after a year off for the 2020 pandemic lockdown.
Friday also saw band performances and an evening of fireworks raining down over Granville s Wildwood Park.
A few minutes before the event s Friday noon opening of the downtown midway, Granville Kiwanis member Gail Venrick said, It s super exciting to be back. Everybody is so excited to be back downtown. It s a perfect day for it. The weather couldn t be nicer. We re looking forward to the fireworks tonight. ....

Officials: Closer to 'normal' Granville spring, summer ahead?

Newark Advocate
Spring and summer in Granville may look a bit more like they did in 2019 than last year if current COVID-19 trend-lines continue.
In a monthly stakeholders’ COVID-19 virtual meeting, Granville-area officials discussed the likely return of proms, in-person graduations, familiar summer events and community concerts as COVID-19 infection rates continue to decline and the numbers of those vaccinated in the community rise.
Last year, various concerts and annual staples such as the July 4th parade and downtown festival, among many others, were scrubbed by pandemic conditions and some students had to make-do with virtual commencements and no proms or homecoming dances. ....
