Women's Access To Land Is A Human Rights Issue – CSOs, PSA's In Upper East


 
The Upper East Region Civil Society Organisations and Private Sector Actors in Agriculture Platform has called for institutional reforms to ensure that women’s access to land is considered a human rights issue.
The move would help facilitate and formulate the requisite strategies to address challenges facing women’s access to arable lands and other productive resources for farming purposes.
The call was contained in a seven-point Communique issued at the end of a Regional Stakeholder engagement forum held in Bolgatanga on Tuesday May, 11, 2021 on Women’s Access to Arable Land and Productive Resources for Farming in the Upper East Region. ....

This spring on May 7, Lake Manitoba sits at 811 feet above sea level (FSL) on average between Westbourne and at Steep Rock. Water flows into Lake Manitoba through the Waterhen River are 2883 cubic feet per second (cfs) while outflows at Fairford are 1148 cfs. This has brought Lake Manitoba up slightly from 810.9 FSL earlier in the spring. The Assiniboine River at Portage is flowing at 447 cfs and the Whitemud River is at 81 cfs. All of these river flows are well below average for the spring. The Whitemud and Assiniboine rivers median flow for this time of year are 1000 and 5500 cfs respectively. ....

In response, the Ministry of Health (MOH) declared a public health emergency of national concern, and different rounds of oral polio vaccine (OPV) campaigns were conducted. Though the massive campaign involved knocking on the doors of individual caregivers, issues of missed children and refusals related social determinants and behaviours posed challenges to the response, which was also complicated by the COVID-19 pandemic. Men must fully partake in the upbringing of children – Paramount Chief
Pe Dituudini Adiana Ayagitam III, Paramount Chief of Chiana Traditional Area in the Kassena-Nankana West District, has called on Ghanaian men to show concern and get involved in the proper upbringing of their children.
The Paramount Chief, who is also the President of the Upper East Regional House of Chiefs, said parenting was a collective responsibility of both parents.
He said it was required to properly nurture children, inculcate in them good moral values, and ensure discipline to enable them to fit well into society.
This, he said, would not only enable the children to grow up to be responsible citizens to contribute significantly to the development of the nation and also promote love among families. ....
