He said the year was 1991, back when all they could share were stolen moments. What he could be referring to is the time when they were forced to hide their relationship from Abraham Quintanilla, Selena s dad, who did not initially approve of the romance. ....

Usually the SAG Awards are the first of the major peer groups to hand out statues in the new year, but 2021 is proving to be even more change-inducing than 2020.
The 27th Annual SAG Awards were pushed a couple of times, first due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and then when the Grammys decided to have their show on the same night SAG was planning to celebrate. This led to the WGA Awards kicking things off, with PGA following soon after.

But, the additional time did not seem to affect SAG ballot outcomes by much. Netflix’s “The Crown” picked up its second consecutive drama series ensemble, for example, while “Schitt’s Creek” wrapped up its run with the SAG after nabbing an Emmy and a Golden Globe for its final season. When director Shaka King was looking for an artist to deliver the end credit song for “Judas and the Black Messiah,” he went to Grammy winner H.E.R.
Of the qualities that made her the perfect artist to complete the task, he says, “versatility in musicianship, soul, artistic and personal integrity. She’s a throwback.”

King’s approach was to give the Oscar-nominated singer-songwriter notes about what he didn’t want. He says, “I really wanted to give her as much space creatively as possible – while expressing a desire to hear something contemporary with echoes of 1968. When I heard the Curtis Mayfield inspiration, I was like, ‘Yes!’” ....

Pharr-based writer Eduardo Martinez sat down with George Avena Jr., who wrote the song, to dispel the Tejano tittle tattle. The 1990s hearthrob wasn t up thinking about the slain singer, that s for sure.
Avena said the song is actually about Sleepless in Seattle, the 1993 movie starring Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan. Though the September 1995 release date may have seemed perfectly aligned as a reaction to Selena s death a few months earlier, Avena said the song was recorded months before she was killed. ....
