Consultants to explore potential improvements to Scalloway waterfront


A STUDY exploring improvements to Scalloway’s waterfront is set to begin imminently.
The contract for a Scalloway Waterfront and Town Centre feasibility study has been awarded to consultants Ironside Farrar.
The award of this contract comes as a result of funding of £81,000 awarded to the Scalloway Community Development Company (SCDC) from the Crown Estate Fund, administered by the Shetland Islands Council.

The fund will also pay towards the hire of a development worker for an initial period of one year to support this and other related projects.
Ironside Farrar was awarded the contract from a field of seven interested parties after a “rigorous selection process”. ....

THE LOCAL gymnastics club is hoping to secure funding for a feasibility study and site appraisal for new premises as part of an ongoing quest for a purpose built facility.
Shetland Gymnastics Club has been on the go for more than 15 years and runs classes at the Clickimin in Lerwick, but it says it outgrew its current premises around a decade ago.

MORE details have been provided about a new care scheme similar to fostering for adults which has secured nearly £90,000 in funding.
Shetland Community Connections was awarded the £87,000 grant on Wednesday from the local Crown Estate Fund to undertake a feasibility study and set up a ‘Shared Lives’ care scheme.
The scheme is administered by Shetland Islands Council and due to the size of the grant it had to be approved by councillors at a meeting.

Three large grant applications receive backing of councillors


NEARLY £300,000 in grant money has been approved by councillors for three local projects through the recently established Crown Estate Fund.
At a meeting of the full council on Wednesday elected members approved a grant of up to £100,000 to the local authority’s children’s services department to establish a youth voice forum.

This would allow Shetland’s young people to discuss issues affecting them with councillors and other public organisations, and “ensure young people’s rights and participation are embedded on a local level”.
