Southland Stags coach Dale MacLeod content despite preseason loss to Otago

MacLeod was after “actions and intent” from his players and said he saw plenty of that.
He said they let themselves down in areas such as the lineout and exiting from their own half, but that was a lot to do with the limited preparation time for many of the players.
MacLeod got to have a look at various players who had not played a lot at a level above club rugby, and he said those players would have learned a lot from that outing.
He said some players were waiting for players to come to them in defence, while those more accustomed to the next level were getting up quickly and “smacking” opposition players in defence. ....

Highlanders lock Manaaki Selby-Rickit signs with Bay of Plenty for Mitre 10 Cup

Southland lock Manaaki Selby-Rickit warms up before the round five Mitre 10 Cup game against Northland.
Selby-Rickit moved to Southland in 2017 after he struggled for opportunities with Manawatu and he quickly developed into a key asset in the Stags setup on his way to picking up a contract with the Highlanders.
This year he was included in the South team for the North-South All Blacks trial fixture.
While disappointed, MacLeod said he respected Selby-Rickit’s decision and said the Stags now had to focus on filling the void at lock.
Bay of Plenty has also signed Stags tight-head prop Lio Tosi who was transformed from a No 8 to a front-rower last year. ....
