City survey engages local businesses

“The information and ideas gathered through this consultation will be extremely valuable as we work to align our services to better support Kingston businesses,” Craig Desjardins, director of strategy, innovation and partnerships, said in a news release. “We plan to help businesses wherever possible as COVID-19 economic recovery efforts begin.”
In conjunction with the survey, the city has created the role of business support manager as it looks ahead to the next stage of post-COVID economic recovery. Heather Scrannage will work this role, becoming a single point of contact for businesses.
Scrannage’s appointment is the next step for the city’s new Business Support Office. Her team intends to help streamline, optimize and better connect local businesses with available city supports to resolve issues. ....

As our community emerges from the pandemic and looks to the next stage of economic recovery, the City of Kingston is engaging with local businesses to seek feedback and ideas on how it can better provide timely, value-added and easily accessed City services and support for businesses.
To accelerate the improvement of how the City supports businesses, the role of business support manager has been created to act as a single point of contact for support when challenges arise for businesses. The City of Kingston has made a number of organizational changes aimed at providing continuity of service, adding focus to key initiatives outlined in the 2019-2022 Strategic Plan and supporting Kingston through the pandemic and its recovery. The changes below go into effect on May 10.
To better target services supporting the arts, culture and heritage-related needs of our community, the City will reframe its Cultural Services department as Arts & Culture Services and create a new Heritage Services department.
To assist with pandemic recovery and implement a number of economic development strategies, resources will be added to the Office of Strategy, Innovation and Partnerships – including the addition of a new Rural Economic & Community Development Manager. ....

TRIO Student of the Month — Ann Mole – St. Clair County Community College

Ann Mole had some information from an insider when she decided to return to school to pursue a degree in graphic design: Her husband.
“He would talk about how much his instructors cared and helped him to achieve his goals,” she said, “so I chose to attend SC4, too.”
The TRIO Student Support Services program has proved to be an important part of Mole’s educational journey at SC4, and it’s provided extra support and encouragement for her when needed.
“The one-on-one advisor appointments gave me the encouragement to get through the semester,” Mole explained. “I’m grateful to Shawne Jowett, Amy Hengehold, and Jessica Brown, who I could always talk to when I needed somebody.” ....
