Former Denison Mayor, TMC official, RMA leader Raymond 'Jerdy' Gary dead at 87

Long-time community leader Jerdy Gary died last week at the age of 87.
Raymnod Jerdy Gary was born in Madill, Oklahoma in 1933 to Raymond and Emma Gary. He came to Denison in late1950s to run a petroleum company Sooner Oil Company. In addition to being a businessman, Gary shined as a community leader with posts on a group of local organizations too long to list including, a 20-year stint as Chairman of Texoma Medical Center
He was also appointed by Texas Governor Rick Perry to chair Grayson County s Regional Mobility Authority in 2008. He left that spot in 2010.
In 2006, Gary was recognized for his long term service to Texoma Medical Center. He has served on the THCS Board of Directors, currently including two terms as chairman for a second time. He was a founding member of the TMC Foundation, serving 14 years as its chairman. During his time as foundation chairman, country music singer and actress, Reba McEntire, joined Gary in supporting the foundation ....

Grayson County approves Todd Thompson for spot on Regional Mobility Authority

Grayson County commissioners Tuesday appointed Todd Thompson to take a seat on the Grayson County Regional Mobility Authority left open by the recent death of Sherman attorney Clyde Siebman.
The Grayson County RMA was originally developed to work on the extension of State Highway 289. That project was turned back over to county commissioners, though, when a different avenue of funding became available. Grayson County commissioners then put the RMA in charge of overseeing North Texas Regional Airport and also the Grayson County Toll Road.
Thompson was at Tuesday s meeting with his wife but declined to speak about his appointment. ....

For many years, North Texas Regional Airport has been called Grayson County s diamond in the rough. The former Air Force base could be polished into a prime asset to the region if given the right resources, time and development.
Regional leaders took one step closer to polishing that diamond Monday during a groundbreaking for a new terminal building, which will serve as the face of the airport for years to come.
Here are five things to know about the project:
1. An modernization of airport services
Representatives with Grayson County, NTRA and other partners officially broke ground Monday on a new 10,000 square-foot building which will serve as the new terminal for the airport. The building will replace a 1980s-era terminal which was demolished earlier this year to make way for the new terminal complex. ....

Military training will return to North Texas Regional Airport Perrin Field, albeit for one night. The Grayson County Regional Mobility Authority announced Thursday that members of the Texas National Guard will conduct a training exercise at the former air base on March 19.
NTRA Airport Manager Mike Livezey said he was approached by members of the 143rd Infantry Regiment of the Texas National Guard about possible training exercises about two months ago.
It has been confirmed that they want to do a training exercise here at the airport, Livezey said. They ve done this in the past. ....

Aerobatics make a return to NTRA

Aerobatic contests have been cleared for landing and a return to Texoma at North Texas Airport Perrin Field. The Grayson County Regional Mobility Authority approved a request for the airport to host 2021 Lone Star Aerobatic Contest at NTRA.
This marks the first time that the contest has be held at the airport since 2018. The Lone Star Contest and others moved away from NTRA in recent years due to concerns about air traffic and congestion.
We feel like this is an opportunity to promote the airport to the community and we hope this you will support our activities here at North Texas Regional, said Tom Rhodes, president of the International Aerobic Club Chapter 24. ....
