ISIS’s “online Caliphate” has metastasized despite the group’s military defeat in Iraq and Syria, including an alarming rise of jihadist propaganda in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Challenger seeks recount of 13-vote loss in Burnham mayoral election

BURNHAM â Challenger Antwon Russell has asked for a discovery recount after official results showed him losing the town s mayoral election to incumbent Robert Polk by 13 votes.
Cook County Clerk Karen Yarbrough released certified results last week showing Polk with 384 votes, or 50.9%, to 371, or 49.1%, for Russell in the April 6 general election.

Russell noted Yarbrough s decision to extend voting for an extra hour at one of the town s polling places, Thornton Township Precinct 99 at Burnham Community Center on Torrence Avenue, because it opened late.
He said some voters who wanted to register and vote on election day were turned away. Russell also said when some judges did not show up, replacements were hired who had ties to the town s current elected officials. ....

Wal-Mart shopper denies attributable fault in suit alleging injuries from robbery at Granite City store

A woman who claims she was knocked unconscious and robbed at the Granite City Wal-Mart denies that any fault is attributable to her or that a third party is liable for her damages.
Wal-Mart previously argued in its answer to plaintiff Christine Collins’ complaint that if it is found liable, its fault is less than 25 percent of the total fault attributable to the plaintiff. It also argued that a third party defendant is liable for damages.
Collins answered the affirmative defenses on April 12 through attorney Ellen Burford of Burford Law Office in Granite City. She denies all affirmative and additional defenses asserted by defendants Wal-Mart and Christopher Hodges. ....

Burnham Mayor Robert Polk holds lead in bid for fifth term; challenger Antwon Russell not conceding yet

As incumbent Burnham Mayor Robert Polk looks forward to tackling priorities for his fifth term, challenger Antwon Russell holds out hope for a come-from-behind win.
In final, unofficial results released by Cook County Clerk Karen Yarbrough on Wednesday, Polk had 380 votes in Tuesday s general election to Russell s 332, a margin of 53% to 47%.

Candidates aligned with Polk also were apparent winners in their races. Incumbent Clerk Lus Chavez had 380 votes to 313 for John Hajduch.
