Assam Christian Forum appeals to political parties to safeguard rights of ethnic people & minorities
Appealing for free-and-fair elections, the Assam Christian Forum said that the political parties must uphold the Sovereign, Socialist, Secular and Democratic Republic character of the Constitution of India.

GUWAHATI: The Assam Christian Forum an ecumenical body of churches has appealed to all political parties to address the genuine issues of the State in the ensuing Assembly elections including framing laws to thwart the threat posed to land, livelihood and income of ethnic (tribal) people.
Forum spokesperson Allen Brooks said the right to land, livelihood and life of all the people of the State has to be respected, protected and developed. He also said that justified wages must be given to all labourers particularly those working in the tea gardens. ....

The World Evangelical Alliance (WEA) has formally welcomed its new Secretary General & CEO, theologian Dr. Thomas Schirrmacher, in a ceremony live-streamed on Saturday from Bonn, Germany.
Evangelical leaders representing 9 regional and 140 national Evangelical Alliances around the world joined the event online with greetings, prayers and blessings to induct the new leadership.
Beginning the ceremony, WEA s Chair of the International Council, Rev. Dr. Goodwill Shana led attendees with a devotion from Acts 2:42 and 2:45.
As WEA enters a new era, may the Lord grant that we see continuity, renewal and transformation through our new leadership, he said. ....

President Cyril Ramaphosa s lifting of the ban on religious gatherings has not deterred faith-based organisations from challenging the government in court seeking an order to compel it to do away with the ban.

 AfriForum and Muslim Lawyers Association filed an urgent application against the ban, which was meant to be heard on Tuesday in the South Gauteng High Court in Johannesburg.
The organisations have agreed to abandon their urgent application following the announcement by the president of allowing only 50 worshippers in an indoor venue and 100 people outdoors. ....

Covid-19: Church groups turn to court over banning of gatherings

Pretoria - The SA National Christian Forum and other church groups will meet the government in court on February 2 to challenge the banning of church gatherings in terms of the Covid-19 Disaster Management Act regulations.
The forum, together with Cornerstone Church Ministry and the Antioch Bible Church, have filed papers in the Gauteng High Court, Johannesburg, in which they ask that the regulations pertaining to religious gatherings be overturned.
They will also ask the court to compel Minister of Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma to include them in any future consultations which affect faith-based gatherings under the act. ....
