It took 17 days for the Education Department to be notified and to send out a clean-up crew after contractors disturbed asbestos while installing airconditioning at a Brisbane school.
The incident was among 19 asbestos “exposure incidents” at Queensland schools during the installation of airconditioning under the government’s Cooler Schools program since 2019.
Education officials faced a grilling about asbestos removal at Sunnybank State High School during budget estimates.

On November 9, at 6.35am, airconditioning contractors disturbed asbestos at Sunnybank State High School but a professional crew was not sent to the school for testing, and to clean up more than 30 rooms, until November 26, 17 days later. ....

A toddler was taken to hospital after an incident at a Sydney beach on Monday.
The boy was pulled unconscious from the water at Clontarf Beach in Sydney s northern beaches area.
Bystanders who came to the boy s aid called emergency services at 2.30pm and NSW Ambulance sent four crews, plus a helicopter.
By the time the boy was put in an ambulance and taken to hospital by road, he was conscious again.
He was taken to Sydney Children s Hospital in an unknown condition. ....

Emergency services were called to Clontarf Beach just after 2.30pm following reports a toddler nearly drowned.
The boy was dragged from the water and treated by paramedics at the scene.

He was then taken to Royal North Shore hospital.
It s understood the boy was underwater for a minute before being helped to shore.
His condition is not known.
