The Guilford County School board approved the superintendent’s budget recommendation for the new school year on Tuesday night totaling more than $800 million.
The proposed funding includes investments in student mental health and support services, and to help kids who have fallen behind.
There’s also a request to county commissioners for more local money that would be used for teacher supplements and providing a minimum $15-an-hour wage for bus drivers and child nutrition workers. ....

GUILFORD COUNTY, N.C. The Guilford County School Board approved the budget for next year during its Tuesday night meeting. It includes raises for GCS staff and teachers but will have to get past county commissioners now.
Dozens of teachers and GCS staff stood outside the administrative building ahead of the meeting, calling for the board to approve GCS Superintendent Dr. Sharon Contreras proposed budget, which includes a minimum wage of $15 per hour for all GCS staff and 5% pay bumps for teachers. ....

On Tuesday Superintendent Dr. Sharon Contreras presented a proposed budget for the 2021-2022 academic school year. The Guilford County Board of Education discussed the budget recommendation, totaling more than $700,000,000.
School leaders went over everything from recovering from COVID-19 learning loss recovery to pay raises.
The Guilford County Association of Educators held a press conference shortly after the meeting to address the suggested pay raises. ....

Gerald Walden has been appointed vice president, deputy general counsel and head of diversity at The Fresh Market.
Walden previously served as vice president and head of legal. As head of diversity, a newly created role, he will oversee The Fresh Market’s efforts to advance and integrate diversity, equity and inclusion values and practices across the company and with business partners and customers, the Greensboro, N.C.-based specialty grocer said.
In his role as deputy general counsel, Walden (left) will continue to serve as a leader in The Fresh Market’s legal team through his deep experience in labor and employment law, the company noted. No live teaching will take place Friday while many GCS staff members receive their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

GREENSBORO, N.C. The third largest school district in the state took a remote learning day as Guilford County worked to vaccinate nearly all of its school staff in the next two weeks.
Guilford County Schools students logged in to complete assignments but did not have live lessons Friday.
