May 12, 2021BELMONT For the second week in a row, the Gilford track team traveled to Belmont for a meet, this time also featuring Bishop Brady.
For the Gilford girls, Riley McDonough won the 200 meters with a time of 31.87 seconds and Shea Brown ran to second in 33.97 seconds.
Lindsey Sanderson took the top spot in the 800 meters with a time of 2:45.83 and Taryn Wernig finished in second place in a time of 3:14.78.
Abby Shute won the high jump, clearing three feet, 10 inches. She also took third in the long jump with a distance of 12 feet, 9.5 inches. ....

NEASC commends Gilford High School for work in several areas
May 12, 2021The Commission on Public Schools, at its March 8 meeting, reviewed the Decennial Accreditation Report from the recent visit to Gilford High School and voted to award the school continued Accreditation in the New England Association of Schools and Colleges.
The Commission was impressed with the progress made on the Priority Areas for Growth and increased alignment with the Principles of Effective Practice since the time of the Collaborative Conference visit and wishes to commend the following:
- The creation and implementation of a Portrait of a Learner for the entire school district. The school s roundtable discussion with neighboring schools to share strategies around creating a Portrait of a Learner. ....

Students, staff quarantining throughout district
Officials confident that no in-school transmission took place
April 28, 2021Around 126 Gilford students and five school staff members are in quarantine after multiple people tested positive for COVID-19, though the superintendent says none of the transmission took place in the schools themselves.
Superintendent Kirk Beitler wrote an update with the situation on the district s Web site. As of April 19, a large number of positive COVID-19 cases has been reported in all three schools with even more students and staff quarantining. At Gilford High School alone, more than 100 students were in quarantine.
As of last Monday, those in quarantine included 107 students and three staff members at GHS, 16 students and one staff member at Gilford Middle School, and three students and one staff member at Gilford Elementary School. ....

NORTH BRANFORD Nancy Kaplan was feeling desperate that her young adult son get his COVID-19 vaccination before they go to her daughter’s graduation from an Iowa veterinary school in May.
“No one wears masks there,” said Kaplan, who lives in Danbury.
Turning to the “New York/Connecticut Vaccine Hunters and Angels” group on Facebook, Kaplan’s son was given an appointment in plenty of time for the trip. Little did she know it was a 16-year-old Boy Scout who came to their rescue. ....
