Proposed 12-cent increase per $1,000 of assessed value in county's local option property tax will come before voters in May
Clackamas County commissioners were split over whether to send a proposed increase of the local option public-safety levy to voters on the May ballot.
In a purely symbolic vote, commissioners decided 3-2 to support Clackamas Sheriff Angela Brandenburg's proposal to increase the levy by 12 cents. County Chair Tootie Smith, who ran for chair on a campaign of ensuring county public safety is well-funded, and Commissioner Mark Shull, who was appointed board liaison for public safety earlier this week, were the two "Nay" votes.

Pamplin Media Group - Community members renew calls for Mark Shull's resignation

Community members renew calls for Mark Shull's resignation

Path for healing exists, but not if commissioner remains a represenative of Clackamas County, say Muslim and LGBTQ residents
A coalition of community members representing metro-area Muslim residents and other marginalized groups held a press conference Thursday afternoon to renew calls for Clackamas County Commissioner Mark Shull to resign.
Shull — who recently came under scrutiny for racist, transphobic, anti-immigrant and Islamophobic statements made on his personal Facebook page — has doubled down on some of his comments in recent days. During a Board of County Commissioners meeting Thursday, Jan. 21, Shull incorrectly stated that Muslim people believe in Sharia Law over the U.S. Constitution. His comments followed nearly 45 minutes of public testimony in which community members unleashed scathing calls for his resignation.

Records illustrate a scene from December 2010 when future county commissioner was allegedly violent towards then-wife and stepson.
Allegations of domestic violence against Mark Shull in December 2010 were rejected by Clackamas County prosecutors due to a lack of evidence, newly obtained records show.
The records provided through a request to the Clackamas County District Attorney's Office illustrate allegations of a domestic dispute between Shull and his then-wife Galina Anufrieva on Dec. 16, 2010 in the presence of Aufrieva's 14-year-old son.
Shull — who was elected to the Clackamas Board of County Commissioners in November 2020 — has recently come under fire for racist, Islamophobic, anti-immigrant and transphobic statements made public from his personal Facebook page. Shull was censured by his fellow board members in a Thursday, Jan. 14 resolution calling on him to resign.

Lanea Kollenburn: 'We of course love our children and would never put them in harm's way, but the totality of circumstances must be considered'
The Kollenburns of Molalla, owners of the dog Lladk, are suing Clackamas County and the Clackamas Board of County Commissioners in federal court for discrimination and asking for Lladk to be returned home.
The issue has been ongoing since July when Lladk bit Lanea and Caleb Kollenburn's then 15-month-old son on the head after the toddler had escaped out the doggy door, and Lladk was subsequently sentenced to euthanasia.

Pamplin Media Group - Clackamas County Commissioner Mark Shull under fire for racist, anti-immigrant statements

A county resident's blog highlights Islamophobic and transphobic comments on Facebook.
New Clackamas County Commissioner Mark Shull is in the hot seat after a blog created by a local resident highlighted more than a dozen posts he's made to his personal Facebook page espousing anti-immigrant, Islamophobic and transphobic sentiments.
The blog "Documenting Mark Shull's Racism" was created by Cris Waller, a Jennings Lodge resident and Oregon House District 40 leader for the county's Democratic Party. The website highlights quotes and screenshots of around 20 posts made by Shull during the past two years representing views that Islam and Muslim people are a threat to America, and, on occasion, seemingly calling for violence.
