CHEROKEE COUNTY, GA Cherokee County students earned regional and state honors through the annual Georgia Student Technology Competition.
The statewide competition offers students in grades 3-12 the opportunity to showcase their skills through 16 categories and vie for honors at regional and state fairs.
Nearly 90 Cherokee County students put their technology skills to the test at the Piedmont Regional Technology Competition. The regional event was organized and led by Shannon Carroll, the district s supervisor of instructional technology, and Jeff Pence, the district s instructional technology specialist. ....

CHEROKEE COUNTY, GA A Cherokee County School District teacher is a top agriculture teacher in the nation.
Clark Creek Elementary School STEM Academy teacher Karen Garland was surprised March 10 with the announcement that she is a 2021 Excellence in Teaching About Agriculture Award winner, one of only eight educators honored nationwide.
The National Agriculture in the Classroom Organization, U.S. Department of Agriculture s National Institute of Food and Agriculture and Farm Credit each year together recognize the top teachers in pre-kindergarten through 12th grade for innovation in using agricultural concepts to teach across the curriculum. Garland, who teaches science lab classes to students in kindergarten through fifth grade, in October was named the state winner for her success in showing s ....

Advisory board receives update on Southwest Cherokee Parks and Trails plan

As the Cherokee Recreation and Parks Agency continues to move forward with its development of the Southwest Cherokee Parks and Trails plan, the CRPA Advisory Board heard the latest updates on the plan at its most recent meeting.
Community Services Agency Director Bryan Reynolds said there are four parcels of land being considered as part of the plan, three of which are owned by a family and the fourth being under control of the Cherokee County School District. Three of the four pieces of property are located south of Ga. Highway 92 in the vicinity of Clark Creek Elementary School, while the fourth is located at the intersection of Old Alabama Highway and Kellogg Creek Road. As part of the study, Reynolds said participants had the ability to share their thoughts on what they would like to see be developed in the area. ....
