Clifton NJ car accident: 81-year-old pedestrian killed

View Comments CLIFTON A 81-year-old resident was pronounced dead early Sunday morning after being struck by a car on Hazel Street. At approximately 8:22 a.m., police responded to a report of a pedestrian who had been struck by a motor vehicle, according to a press release from Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes. Marinus Lalumia was crossing Hazel Street near the intersection with Van Orden Place when he was hit by a 2017 Honda HR-V that was being driven by a 21-year-old Paterson resident. Lalumia was pronounced dead at the scene.  No charges have been filed at this time, but an investigation is ongoing, said the prosecutor’s office and Clifton Police Chief Thomas Rinaldi in the statement.

Read / Add Comments UPDATE: Authorities turned to the public for help identifying a man who they confirmed Monday was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver on Route 3 over the weekend. Police found the body on the eastbound highway outside Clifton Commons shortly after 8 a.m. Sunday, Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Clifton Police Chief Thomas Rinaldi said in an officials statement. The officers were responding to calls of debris in the roadway, law enforcement sources said. It s unusual, to say the least, one said. At no point did anyone report seeing a body. Apparently, no one realized what it was.
