The Senate’s “Recovery Now” plan runs a wide gamut of priorities: sending millions to food banks and fire departments; wiping out utility and rental debt for a few thousand families; awarding grants for businesses, artists and nonprofits; paying $1,000 to tens of thousands of people stuck in limbo in the unemployment system; restoring buses and trains to pre-pandemic service levels; and funding “wellmobiles” to administer doses of the coronavirus vaccine, Pamela Wood of the Sun reports. ....
The Maryland Board of Public Works has granted final approval for a tidal wetlands license that would bring natural gas to Somerset County, a utility service local elected officials have been seeking to bring to area for years. “We are pleased with the unanimous decision by the Maryland Board of Public Works to grant the final tidal wetlands license needed to extend natural gas to Somerset County, one of only three counties in Maryland without access to natural gas,” Chesapeake Utilities Spokesman Justin Mulcahy said. “This approval will enable University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) and Eastern Correctional Institution (ECI) to greatly reduce greenhouse gas and other emissions to improve local air quality.” ....

The proposed Del-Mar Energy Pathway pipeline project will mostly follow U.S. Route 13 and the railroad to its east on Marylandâs Lower Shore. Dave Harp The Board of Public Works, presided over by Gov. Larry Hogan, on Jan. 27 unanimously approved a permit allowing Delaware-based Chesapeake Utilities to bore under three waterways. The company is extending an 8-inch-diameter pipeline 11 miles into Somerset County from existing lines in Wicomico County and southern Delaware. The state signed a contract with the company in 2019 to supply natural gas to the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, which currently relies on fuel oil and propane, and the Eastern Correctional Institution, which uses wood chips. The change in fuel source is expected to reduce carbon emissions nearly 40 ....
