Bucks Council approves extension of listed cottage on Elm Road in Penn

EXTENSION plans for an 18th Century cottage that received allegations of “poor design” have been approved.
Mr and Mrs Bahia won conditional permission to build a part single, part two-storey rear extension onto Gable Cottage, on Elm Road, in Penn, which is Grade II listed.
They also won permission to demolish a conservatory and “rundown” outbuilding, as well as to replace a garage door with brickwork and two windows.

Another similar application alongside this one was also approved.
The overall aim is to turn a toy room into a bedroom and to repurpose another bedroom as an office. ....

“I actually harbour concerns that the opposite may have happened and that the business may have been left to, maybe not deteriorate, but certainly to run down a little in order to facilitate a change of use.
“I certainly don’t believe the applicant has demonstrated that all reasonable steps have been taken to secure a future for the pub as a viable concern and that does need to be done.

'Change of use' of The Swan in Ley Hill to be debated by Bucks Council

A HISTORIC pub whose trading future has been a long-running dispute is now being considered as a private home – but local campaigners argue it should be preserved.
Mr and Mrs Byatt are applying for a change of The Swan pub, in Ley Hill, near Chesham, to residential use.
There will also be two on-site parking spaces but “no internal or external alterations”, according to council documents.
However, the proposed scheme is considered unacceptable and is recommended for refusal.
The council’s historic buildings officer objects because it will “preclude general access to members of the public”.
