Aviation services company wants to hire more mechanics, technicians
An aviation services company has received additional state job training money for its Roswell operations to hire up to 20 more people in the next 12 months, as the company’s general manager says that CAVU continues to experience growth in its local customer base.
The funding decision was made by the New Mexico Job Training Incentive program board during its Friday meeting. Roswell-Chaves County Economic Development Corp. and its President Michael Espiritu supported the funding, with Espiritu saying that he is “encouraged by their new job growth.”
CAVU Aerospace is an aircraft maintenance, storage and dismantling operation certified by the Federal Aviation Administration. It has mobile teams and operates in facilities in Stuttgart, Arkansas; Victorville, California; Mesa, Arizona; and the Roswell Air Center. ....

Seven months after its inception, the Airport Authority Steering Committee recommended against the formation of an independent governing authority that would take ownership and management of the Roswell Air Center. The committee instead recommended the city partner with Chaves County in the Air Center’s management.
The recommendation comes just a little over two years after Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham signed into law House Bill 227, introduced into the House of Representatives and the Senate by legislators representing Roswell. ....

Two instructors at Eastern New Mexico University-Roswell have been selected to receive 2021 Teaching Excellence Awards from the National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development (NISOD).

Each year, instructors are asked to nominate one instructor to receive the award. From these nominations, the Faculty Evaluation Committee selects two faculty members for national recognition. This year, Kim LaDuca, Special Services instructor; and James Buchanan, director of science programs; have been selected.
NISOD is a membership organization committed to promoting and celebrating excellence in teaching, learning and leadership at community and technical colleges.

An aviation maintenance technology certificate program at Eastern New Mexico University-Roswell will be adjusted a bit after Community College Board and Board of Regents members approved a change during their meetings this week.
The groups approved the proposal to turn what is now a single Certificate of Achievement in Airframe and Powerplant into two separate certificates in those areas.
“This is to provide the opportunity for the student to test as soon as they have completed each area of study instead of waiting until the completion of both,” according to information provided to board members.
The information stated that creating two certificates would spread out the costs of taking the Federal Aviation Administration exams. It also would allow students to process information in smaller segments. ....

City manager offers apology for water billing issues - Roswell Daily Record

City Manager Joe Neeb offered an apology at Thursday night’s Roswell City Council meeting for the problems the city has had with its new water billing system and said further adjustments would take another two months.
“We are working diligently to try to get this thing rectified and get this fixed. Nobody should have to deal with this and we apologize for that,” Neeb said.
The issue has been updating from what Neeb called an “archaic” analog billing system to a new digital system, which the city began in December. He likened it to upgrading from the video game “Pong,” the 1972 ping-pong themed game with simple black and white graphics to “Minecraft,” the three-dimensional world-creating game popular today. ....
