Ex-Riddlesden man completes 100-day running challenge in memory of his grandfathers


Chris Sutcliffe ran every day for 100 days in support of the charity.
He clocked-up the miles in memory of his late grandfathers.
Both Kenneth Brame, who was 93, and John Peter Sutcliffe, 79, had been diagnosed with dementia.
“I wanted to do it in their memory and to raise money and awareness,” said Chris, 33, a personal trainer.
“During the first wave of coronavirus, one in four people who died from Covid-19 had dementia.
“The World Health Organisation reports that dementia is perhaps the 21st century’s most serious health challenge.
“Worldwide, around 50 million people live with dementia – and by 2050 this number is expected to reach 152 million.” ....

Grants awarded for projects across the Keighley area: see which schemes will benefit


Eight so-called ward development grants have been agreed by the town council’s finance and audit committee.
The grants will enable councillors in Woodhouse & Hainworth, Riddlesden & Stockbridge, Oakworth, Morton & Sandbeds, Spring Gardens & Utley and Long Lee & Parkwood to support projects within their wards.
Cllr Mick Dowse is backing the Healthy Growth Initiative, which is providing food parcels for people hard hit by the pandemic.
At Riddlesden, Cllr Andrea Walker is supporting the provision of a bench in Casey’s Corner – a garden at the primary school in memory of Casey Mason, who died whilst a pupil there.
Oakworth councillors Mark Curtis and Luke Maunsell are paying for the village hall to have a grit bin installed and filled, as well as a supply of dog bags to refill dispensers around the area. ....

Tributes have been paid to a former Barrow teacher who went on to become a stalwart of a world-famous male voice choir after his death following a brave battle against cancer.
Len Wilson ­– who was 93 – had been diagnosed with lung cancer about a year ago, after being treated successfully for a tumour previously.
Mr Wilson was born in Barrow-in Furness, where he joined the choir of St Paul’s Church at the age of seven. ....

Tribute is paid as stalwart member of Steeton Male Voice Choir loses brave battle against cancer


TRIBUTE has been paid to a stalwart of the world-famous Steeton Male Voice Choir who has died after a brave battle against cancer.
Len Wilson ­– who was 93 – had been diagnosed with lung cancer about a year ago, after being treated successfully for a tumour previously.
A socially-distanced presentation was made to him outside his East Morton home last November when he celebrated half a century with the choir, of which he was president.
“It is no exaggeration to say that Len has been the key man in the success of the choir for more than four decades,” said chairman, Mike Grady. ....
