F C Council Still Debating Lowering City s Tax Rate | Falls Church News-Press Online

April 15, 2021 12:00 PM by Nicholas F. Benton F.C.’s City Council reviews some of the budget requests from various departments within the City Government. (Screenshot: News-Press) As the Falls Church City Council closes in on adopting its Fiscal Year 2022 operating budget of about $106 million in less than two weeks, it appears almost certain that property owners will enjoy a cut in their tax rate, below the current level of $1.355 per $100 of assessed valuation. The only question is by how much, and options currently discussed are ranging from City Manager Wyatt Shields’ recommendation of a single penny reduction, to a drop to $1.33 by Council member Letty Hardi and $1.31 by Council member Ross Litkenhous. Council member Phil Duncan said at Monday’s virtual City Council meeting that he’d prefer Litkenhous’ number, but it all depends on information that is not currently available.

Ask Eli: Deep Dive Into Arlington s Townhouse Market

December 15, 2020 at 11:45am This regularly-scheduled sponsored Q&A column is written by Eli Tucker, Arlington-based realtor and Arlington resident. Please submit your questions to him via email for response in future columns. Enjoy! Question: I need more living space and single-family homes are out of my budget, so I’ve been searching for townhouses in Arlington, but finding that the options are limited. Can you provide some guidance on what the townhouse market in Arlington looks like? Answer: I spend a lot of time digging into the condo and single-family home markets but not much time on the townhouse/duplex market. Why? Because townhouses and duplexes make up such a small part of our housing inventory. According to a Missing Middle study, townhouses and duplexes make up just 5.9% of Arlington’s housing inventory (3.7% are townhouses).
