Baystate Health opens temporary youth behavioral health unit
SPRINGFIELD Baystate Health opened a temporary 12-bed child/adolescent psychiatric unit on its Baystate Medical Center campus last week, as part of an effort to address the critical shortage of behavioral health services for children in the region.
“This new unit serves as a bridge allowing us to provide inpatient psychiatric care for children and adolescents over the next two years until our new Baystate-Kindred Healthcare joint venture behavioral health hospital opens with a permanent pediatric/adolescent unit,” said Dr. Barry Sarvet, chair of the Department of Psychiatry at Baystate Health. ....

SPRINGFIELD Baystate Health has launched its partnership with for-profit Kindred Health Services with the opening of a temporary 12-bed child-and-adolescent behavioral health unit as the two continue plans for their $55 million, 150-bed psychiatric hospital,
The temporary unit restores inpatient pediatric psychiatric services to Western Massachusetts. Mercy Medical Center, part of Trinity Health Of New England, closed Providence Behavioral Hospital in June. The hospital had a 24-bed pediatric psychiatric unit that was the only one in the region. ....

Man charged with murder after death of Muhammed Mujahid Hussain

A MAN has been charged with murder following the death of 19-year-old Muhammed Mujahid Hussain last week.
Hashim Sajjad, 19, of Wheatlands Crescent, Bradford, has been charged with murder and remanded in custody to appear at Bradford Magistrates Court today.
He has also been charged with attempt section 18 wounding with intent, alongside three other males who were arrested as part of the investigation into Mr Hussain’s death.
This relates to an unconnected incident on April 8 on Lower Westfield Road, where a 17-year-old male was left with serious injuries.
The other three males charged with attempt section 18 wounding with intent are a 16-year-old and two 17-year-olds who cannot be named for legal reasons. ....

A MAN made his first appearance in court this afternoon charged with the murder of Mujahid Hussain in Duckworth Lane last week.
Hashim Sajjad, 19, of Wheatlands Crescent, Daisy Hill, appeared in the dock behind glass screens at Bradford and Keighley Magistrates Court earlier today.
Dressed in a grey jumper and bottoms and a blue face covering, Sajjad spoke only to confirm his name, date of birth and address.
It is alleged that the teenager, whose family were present in the courtroom murdered 19-year-old Muhammed Mujahid Hussain late on Thursday, April 22, following large scale disorder in Duckworth Lane.
Mujahid Hussain turned up at Bradford Royal Infirmary with a single knife wound shortly after midnight last Friday, and died from his injuries a short time later. ....
