BOARDMAN Robin Suzelis recently was appointed director of the Autism Society of Mahoning Valley, transitioning from a volunteer role to a paid one.
It is a role she welcomes as she continues to dedicate her life to helping all who are touched by autism, including two special family members. The ASMV has been all-volunteer for several decades, but the board decided to create the new paid position. In that position, Robin can continue to support her family as well as many others. ....

Peters Township weathers swim season


If they handed out medals for resiliency at the WPIAL Class AAA boys championships, then Peters Township would have received one hands down.
The Indians battled many obstacles just to qualify its seven swimmers for the finals held Sunday at Upper St. Clair High School.
“It was a rough season,” said first-year head coach Jamie Stache. “It was hard.”
According to Stache, the Indians were without a home pool for half the season. The pool in the former high school closed and the one at the new school is not scheduled to open until June. In the interim, the Indians traveled to Keystone Oaks High School to train. ....

IUP students chosen for 2020 Art in Arboretum competition


INDIANA, Pa. — Two senior studio art majors at Indiana University of Pennsylvania were chosen as the recipients of the 2020 Art in the Arboretum competition, designed to provide student artists with an opportunity to create art for IUP’s Allegheny Arboretum.
David Salinas, from Zelienople, and Katie West, from Pittsburgh, created a design called “Birds of a Tree,” which was chosen by the Art in the Arboretum Selection Committee as the winning proposal. Both were students in Sean Derry’s public art class, which works with the Art in the Arboretum project.
Established in 2000, the Allegheny Arboretum encompasses the entire 374 acres of the IUP campus, including a 150-acre woodland. In 2005, the Allegheny Arboretum officially became part of the university. It is overseen by the Allegheny Arboretum Board, which provides guidance in meeting the arboretum’s goals and objectives. ....
