Belfast is to get a new 250-acre woodland which is to be developed close to Cavehill Country Park in the north of the city.
The Woodland Trust has spent £600,000 acquiring the site.
The bulk of the money has come from an environment fund with top-up cash from Stormont s Environment Department.
Two thirds of the land is suitable for native woodland, the rest is species rich grassland which supports a wide range of important plants.
The charity plans to open the site to the public once planting and other works have taken place. ....

A new 250-acre woodland site is to be developed in Belfast.
The plantation work will be carried out on ground near Cavehill Country Park in the north of the city.
The site was acquired by The Woodland Trust for £600,000, with help from an environment fund and Stormont.
Northern Ireland has the lowest area of tree cover in Europe with eight percent coverage.
A target of 12% tree cover has been set for 2050.

There is one issue, however - no walking route runs right through the hills, from start to finish. But that could be a thing of the past, if plans put forward to Belfast City Council by campaign group the Belfast Hills Action Campaign (BHAC) come to fruition. ....
