Anti-Semitic incidents in Wisconsin doubled in last 2 years: report


Emboldened by a lack of pushback, people are expressing hate more openly, council chair Brian Schupper said.
“We’re seeing this doubling every couple of years. That’s pretty disturbing,” he said. “That says we’ve got to do a better job as a community of saying, there’s no place for hate. We’re not going to tolerate it.”
The council verified 99 incidents or expressions of anti-Semitism in 2020, compared with 47 in 2018. The early 2010s rarely saw more than 20 reports per year, Schupper said. The incidents either took place in Wisconsin or had a connection to the state.
The audit’s authors believe knowledge is power. If people are aware of the rise in hate, they are more likely to call it out when they see it, Schupper said. ....
