Dawson County BOC approves rezonings for gun range, residential developments
At their voting session on Thursday night, the Dawson County Board of Commissioners approved rezoning requests for two proposed developments and allowed the owners of Dawsonville Gun and Pawn to go forward with plans for an indoor shooting range facility.
The development rezonings approved by the board include a 194-lot residential subdivision, planned to be built at the intersection of Dawson Forest and Blacks Mill roads, and a 120-unit mixed-use residential/commercial development proposed to be built near Lumpkin Campground Road and Hwy. 53.
Commissioners also approved a 90-day moratorium on new rezoning requests in multiple different zoning categories, so that the county can conduct a study on efficiency and costs associated with different zoning categories. ....

Commissioners to discuss COVID-19 vaccination site at work session Thursday
At its meetings on Thursday, Feb. 18, 2021, the Dawson County Board of Commissioners is set to discuss a number of important topics, including possible locations for a COVID-19 vaccination site, the county’s agreement with the Georgia Forestry Commission and several proposed rezonings.
According to Commission Chairman Billy Thurmond, the board is considering several possible locations for the Dawson County Health Department to set up a secondary vaccination site so that large numbers of people can be vaccinated against COVID-19.
In January, Dawson County held a vaccination event at Rock Creek Park that distributed over 800 vaccines to community members and first responders in a single day. ....
