When Bill Zammer was recognized by the Falmouth Chamber of Commerce and our entire community as Falmouth’s Outstanding Citizen of the Year in 2016, I observed that, “Bill Zammer is so much more than an uber-successful restaurateur giving back to the community through charitable donations. In many ways and in many cases, Bill and his wife, Linda, are the charitable donations they offer to nonprofits from P-Town to Pocasset. They are generous with the monetary fruits of their labors, donating plentifully and open-handedly to many and varied organizations in Falmouth and beyond. It is the donation of something far more valuable though—personal time and professional experience—that makes Bill a true gift to all who meet him. Far more than simply generous with his wallet, Bill Zammer is generous of spirit. Provincetown is a town located at the extreme tip of Cape Cod. Sometimes called P-town the town is known for its beaches, harbor, artists, tourist industry, and its reputation as a gay village.
From afar, Cape Cod looks like one of many New England summer vacation destinations. But zoom in and it’s so many different, wonderful pieces. It’s the land of eccentric ice cream scoops heaped on fresh, buttery waffle cones. It’s the ecologically fragile peninsula where seals flop on tidal flats, whales come up for air, and bats swoop overhead. It’s a confluence of cranberry bogs, marshy lime green wetlands, and scrubby dunes. And though it’s a favorite summertime spot, it is just as nice off-season.
