Kneehill County implements pay parking at Horseshoe Canyon

A pay parking pilot at Horseshoe Canyon will be implemented by Kneehill County this summer which will run from mid-May to the September long weekend.
Visitors will be charged $2 per visit with funds going towards the continued care and conservation of the canyon.
“Horseshoe Canyon is such a unique and beautiful site it needs to be preserved and enjoyed for years to come,” said Kneehill County Reeve Jerry Wittstock.
Staff will be onsite at Horseshoe Canyon between Thursday and Monday beginning in May and continuing through the summer season to accept fees, welcome guests, and provide tourism information about other destinations in Kneehill County and the surrounding Badlands. ....

It was supposed to be a quiet morning in Matiatia, a rest day of sorts. Yet there we all were yelling our heads off, sledging, booing, showing appalling sportsmanship toward our kin in what turned out to be the most competitive family match we ve ever had - and it was entirely the owner s fault.
Our day started at Matiatia beach, on Waiheke Island. A truly stunning spot and one I can t remember during my first trips to Waiheke. I guess I always thought once you landed in Matiatia and hopped off the ferry, the first thing you needed to do was walk or bus up into town. Pan-Seared Chicken Breasts With Crunchy Radish Salad

1 Tbsp. prepared horseradish, and
2 tsp. Dijon mustard in a small bowl to combine. Gradually add
Â¼ cup extra-virgin olive oil, whisking constantly until emulsified. Season vinaigrette with salt and pepper.

Pour half of vinaigrette over reserved radish salad and toss to coat. Divide remaining vinaigrette between 2 plates.

2 skinless, boneless chicken breasts (about 12 oz. total) between 2 sheets of parchment paper or plastic wrap. Using a rolling pin or meat mallet, pound chicken breasts out to about Â¼ thick. Season both sides with salt and pepper.

Heat remaining
3 Tbsp. extra-virgin olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high. Place chicken breasts in skillet and press down firmly on them with a spatula to ensure cutlets are making good contact with the pan. The Pope Family Farm, a six-generation operation in Horse Shoe, is going retail. Steelie Runion and her husband, Sam, are now expanding the beefalo business. “We both lost our jobs to Covid and had to figure out something else to do,” Steelie said. “Expanding the beefalo market looked promising.” Sam Runion said the refitted metal cargo containers will be for retail sales, one for beefalo meat and the other for fresh produce and cut flowers. Pumpkins and Frasier firs will follow.
The Pope farm has raised beefalo for years on its 32-acre farm on US 64 West. “Barley’s Tap Room in Asheville has been one of our biggest beefalo customers,” said Steve Pope, a retired professional baseball scout but now involved with the family business. ....
