Missouri S&T's Combat Robotics team earns second during regional event

Missouri University of Science and Technology’s Combat Robotics Design Team recently earned second place at BotsKC, an industry-driven robotic fighting competition that was held in late April in Pleasant Valley, Missouri. 
In addition to earning second place overall out of 26 teams, Missouri S&T’s team earned third in robot battles and first in engineering documentation. This was the team’s first-ever robot build and first year taking part in a competition – the team was formed in the spring of 2020.
Missouri S&T’s robot, named Ankle Grinder, competed in the 15lb division at BotsKC. During the competition, the S&T robot went through several rounds of fighting-style competitions against other teams’ robots.  ....

Missouri University of Science and Technology’s Solar House Design Team recently earned a second-place finish in the U.S. Department of Energy’s Solar Decathlon Design Challenge. The virtual competition was held in mid-April. 
Missouri S&T’s house, named the Freedom to Live Independently, Green Housing for Tomorrow (FLIGHT) Home, earned second place in the Suburban Single-Family Housing Division. Seventy-two teams from 12 countries competed by designing energy-efficient homes that were presented virtually to energy and construction industry experts.  ....

Missouri University of Science and Technology’s Steel Bridge Design Team recently won first place at a regional American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) Mid-Continent Student Conference and will now put their bridge engineering and construction skills to the test at the national level. 
The national finals competition results will be announced June 3. Both the regional and national competitions are held virtually this year. 
At the regional event, Missouri S&T earned first place overall, as well as first place in construction speed and aesthetics, and second place in bridge lightness, bridge economy, and efficiency. This is the third competition in a row that Missouri S&T has won the regional competition and qualified for the national event. ....

Gary Havener makes $6 million dual-purpose contribution to Missouri S&T

Missouri University of Science and Technology alumnus Gary Havener recently committed $6 million to Missouri S&T to support the university’s new Arrival District and to establish the Gary W. Havener Endowed Chair in Mathematics and Statistics. 
Havener, of Fort Worth, Texas, serves Missouri S&T as a member of its Board of Trustees and a founding member of the board of directors of the new Kummer Institute Foundation, which guides the expansion of S&T’s academic offerings and applied learning programs in the areas of entrepreneurship and innovation.
“Gary Havener is one of Missouri S&T’s most accomplished, visionary and philanthropic alumni,” says S&T Chancellor Mo Dehghani. “His perspective and work on our Board of Trustees led to our Master Plan configuration of the Arrival District. And as one of S&T’s first mathematics graduates, his earlier establishment of an endowed scholarship for mathematics majors has helped man ....
