Judge dismisses police officer’s defamation suit against city of Crosby
The defamation suit was dismissed with prejudice, meaning it can never be brought back to court. Jesse Smith was placed on paid administrative leave two times in a four-year period. Both times he was fired and both times he got his job back through arbitration.

A defamation lawsuit filed by former Crosby Police Officer Jesse Smith against the city of Crosby and the police department s top two ranking officers was dismissed in its entirety.
Ninth Judicial Judge Erik J. Askegaard submitted his ruling on the case Wednesday, April 28, in Crow Wing County District Court in Brainerd. The case was dismissed with prejudice, meaning it cannot be brought back to court. ....

Registration is Open Now for Minnesota's I Can! Outdoor Programs


I Can! outdoor program series and registration is open now.
The
I Can! program series is a terrific way to help beginners of all ages learn new outdoor skills in a Minnesota state park or recreation area.  According to the DNR, the programs have been revamped in accordance with COVID-19 safety protocols and they re ready to begin on the first weekend in June and then will continue throughout the summer.
Registration is open now for the following programs:
I Can Camp! – This program provides hands-on instruction on setting up camp, starting a campfire, camp cooking and fun activities to do at Minnesota state parks. All gear is provided, including the tent, air mattresses, cooking gear and other basic camping equipment. One-night, two-night and backpacking programs are available, as well as mini two-hour sessions. ....

A second Barrett Petfood Innovations facility appears to be in the city of Little Falls’ future, the Morrison County Record reported April 11.
The company, which just opened its extrusion facility in July 2020, has plans to build a freeze drying facility nearby if all goes as planned. This second facility would be a joint venture between Barrett and a Fargo, North Dakota-based company called Anchor Ingredients.
Sarah Barrett told the Record the pandemic is a boon for the pet food business as people add pets to their families while staying home. The extrusion facility was initially expected to employ 35 people, but it instead employs 100 and is running at full capacity. More community orgs eligible for landfill rebates in updated county policy
The policy which the board approved for a one-year trial period in 2019 allows organizations with a Crow Wing County location serving low-income individuals with free or reduced price goods to apply for up to a $1,000 rebate for disposing items at the landfill.
