Our country is no stranger to crisis. From natural calamities to social and political turbulence, the Philippines consistently ranks among the riskiest countries in the world. 
Last year, we were subjected to a major crisis with the spread of COVID-19. And then, as if one humanitarian crisis was not enough, it was also during the spread of the virus when typhoons wreaked havoc on the country.
Indeed, to live in the Philippines means to live in constant danger and uncertainty. 
But there is one sector that bears the brunt of these crises the most. Considered the backbone of our society, the agriculture sector responds to our public health needs by ensuring food security for every Filipino. Yet despite their crucial role, Filipino agricultural workers remain among the poorest and most disadvantaged groups in our society.  The high level of poverty among our farmers also ....

Shetland News’ podcaster Jane Moncrieff travelled to the Ness to hear from well-kent collector of all things mechanical, Geordie Jacobson.
Trained as a civil engineer, Geordie worked on many road projects in England and in Scotland before returning home to Shetland in the 1970s when the economy was booming.
The 75-year-old is also well known for his involvement with motorcycles and the Shetland Classic Car Club. A keen volunteer with the local OAP club and Quendale Mill, Geordie is a collector of motorbikes, cars memorabilia, music, books and cameras. ....

Fairness always demands examining every controversy in its proper context. Punishments must be meted out, but its proportionality to the offense must always be underscored. Without it, any remedial measure is oppressive. Justice must not destroy. It should redeem.
And in our society, women have long been treated unfairly. Patriarchy has perpetuated the machismo culture. Even the standard of due diligence under our law is couched in the phrase “the standard of a “good father of a family.” The Philippines has been trying to correct the treatment of women. And great strides in that direction have been made.   ....
