Outdoor in-person classes had their ups, downs Santiago Gaughan/The Cougar As society slowly comes out of isolation, the format of classes are beginning to change again. While some students took in-person classes, they haven’t all made it back to the classroom. Some in-person classes this semester have been in a new kind of format. A format with with stray dogs, confident squirrels and construction noises. Many students had face-to-face classes that met outdoors this semester. After all of these meetings under the trees and sun, some students feel like they have a deeper relationship with mother nature. Of course every relationship has it’s ups and downs, and this one was no different. ....

The album s Americana vibe may come as a surprise to those who only know of JMM through his worship hit but sceptics will soon be won over by the big choruses, gritty vocals and gripping lyrics on offer here. The title track in particular is a riotous slice of Springsteen-esque rock chock-full of tasty guitar licks. Other highlights include the dreamy Carbon Ribs ; the tender and melodic Death In His Grave and Dress Me Up with its powerful repeated refrain of the line His love is stronger (than the power of death) . Kathy and I have said for a couple years that 2020 was going to be the last Cowboy Festival for us,” Mark McMillan said. “We were just going to retire.” With the 2021 event also cancelled due to COVID-19 gathering restrictions, McMillan decided to hang up his hat, concluding the festival without a final send-off year. After 20 or whatever years of doing it, we thought someone else maybe should, and no one else has stepped up, he said. The plan to retire had been discussed for a couple years, McMillan said, but no one from the BC Cowboy Heritage Society (BCCHS), which operates the festival and benefits from the funds it raises, was willing to take over the reins. ....
