FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – A Broward County judge ordered a mental health evaluation on Thursday for the 15-year-old boy who is accused of kidnapping and killing a real estate broker during a $1,000 armed robbery on Feb. 1 in Fort Lauderdale.
Henry Lee Lewis turned 15 on Dec. 19. His public defender implied that if the Florida Department of Children and Families and the Broward County Public Schools system for troubled students would have done their job a tragedy could have been averted.
Before Lewis was accused of killing Stefano Barbosa, 37, another Broward County judge had adjudicated him incompetent and ordered him to go to a youth camp to get mental health treatment but no one followed through to make sure he did, Lewis’ public defender said. ....

15-Year-Old Accused of Robbing, Fatally Shooting Real Estate Agent in Fort Lauderdale

When officers arrived, they found the victim unresponsive in the driver s seat.
The victim, later identified as 37-year-old Stefano Barbosa, had been shot in the chest and had his wallet next to him with his Bank of America debit card sticking out, the report said.

The medical examiner later determined that the shooter had been in the passenger seat of the car, the report said.
Investigators discovered Barbosa was a real estate agent and had been at a quadriplex on Northwest 15th Terrace to have tenants sign some documents that day.
Surveillance footage obtained by detectives showed Barbosa arriving at the quadriplex and being approached by a male suspect dressed in black who was wearing a ski cap, the report said. ....

A Florida teenager is facing a murder charge after police say he forced a real estate agent to withdraw $1,000 from the bank before fatally shooting him.
Investigators said Stefano Barbosa, 37, of Fort Lauderdale, was planning to meet with tenants at a Fort Lauderdale apartment building on Feb. 1 when a ski mask-clad 15-year-old with a gun approached and demanded Barbosa get back into his car. Once inside, he forced the real estate agent to drive to a Bank of America branch where two $500 withdrawals were made, the
South Florida Sun Sentinelreported on Tuesday.
Once back inside his vehicle, police said Barbosa drove about two miles before the teenage suspect shot him in the chest, causing the car to slam through a chain-link fence and into a tree. The teenager then fled on foot. ....
