Gatecrashing took on a whole new meaning on Wednesday when private security guards came across two “petty thieves” in Community Road, Walmer, trying to make off with a security gate.
At about 5pm, a patrol vehicle from Citywide Security thwarted the thieves plans after seeing reports on a neighbourhood social media group of suspicious activity .

Two brazen criminals who tied up and assaulted an elderly couple and stole household items, including a vehicle with pupils on board, dropped off the kids at their school before fleeing the scene of the crime.
The elderly couple, who run a scholar transport business, were accosted in their home on Tuesday morning in Ga-Abel village in Bolobedu before they could deliver the children to school. ....

126 inmates paroled under Covid-19 dispensation have reoffended

More than 100 inmates who had committed non-violent crimes and were released on parole have reoffended, parliament heard on Wednesday.
In total, 126 parolees had reoffended, committing crimes including assault, murder, housebreaking, theft, assault GBH, possession of stolen goods, robbery and breaking parole conditions.
The 126 offenders were part of 13,989 people who were released since last year as a measure to combat the spread of Covid-19 in prisons, some of which were over-populated. They were rearrested and put back behind bars from April this year to date.
The information was presented to the portfolio committee on justice and correctional services. ....

Doctors in private practice are under siege by criminals who pose as patients and clear out their bank accounts, steal their devices and take medication including antiretrovirals and cough syrup.
In the most recent incident, former special adviser to the national health department and general practitioner Dr Esthras Tlou Moloko was attacked at his Germiston practice on the East Rand on Tuesday. ....
