GLOVERSVILLE Gloversville Middle School’s progress last school year towards erasing its identification by the state Education Department was stymied by the coronavirus pandemic and students are facing new setbacks in the disrupted learning environment, according to Principal Mark Batty.
Under the Every Student Succeeds Act, the federal law over K-12 public education requiring states to hold public schools accountable for student achievement, the state Education Department has designated the middle school as a Comprehensive Support and Improvement school. A CSI designated school is described as a school that “struggled to prepare all of their students with some or all indicators of success.” ....

Voters give nod to GESD proposed $35.5 million capital project | News, Sports, Jobs

GLOVERSVILLE The Gloversville Enlarged School District Board of Education on Wednesday certified the results of Dec. 15’s referendum that saw voters approve the district’s proposed $32.5 million capital project.
The capital project was approved with 285 ballots cast in support of the proposition and 91 opposed, for a passage rate of 75.8 percent. A 60 percent super majority was needed for approval.
A canvassing of the official vote tallies shows that 210 or roughly 56 percent of voters cast ballots in-person during the public referendum while the remaining 166 participating voters requested and returned absentee ballots.
The vast majority of in-person ballots were cast at the Gloversville High School polling site with only 13 ballots coming in from Bleecker Town Hall. Only five of the received absentee ballots came from voters who based on residence would have otherwise cast ballots in the town. ....

GESD signs off on collective bargaining union agreement | News, Sports, Jobs

GLOVERSVILLE The Gloversville Enlarged School District Board of Education signed off this week on a collective bargaining agreement between the district and the aides, monitors and parent involvement coordinators unit that includes wage and longevity payment increases for union members.
The GESD Board of Education approved the one-year contract running from July 1, 2020 through June 30, 2021 during a special meeting on Wednesday.
The collective bargaining agreement with the Civil Services Employees Association, American Federation of State, County & Municipal Employees Local 1000, American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations for the Gloversville Enlarged School District Aides, Monitors and Parent Involvement Coordinators of the Fulton County Local 818 succeeds a previous three-year agreement that expired earlier this year on June 30. ....
