Government Must Prioritise Mothers And Babies

The Government needs to prioritise women and babies and
take urgent action to resolve issues in New Zealand’s
maternity system, National’s Social Investment
spokesperson Louise Upston says.
“Reports of women
not receiving the care they need immediately after giving
birth is exactly why the Government must introduce
National’s law change to make sure all mothers receive 3
days of postnatal care.
“I have reached out to all
political parties to formally seek their support to
introduce a law change that would give all mothers a
guaranteed minimum three days care in a postnatal
facility.

Stop 'Widespread Violence' Against Children In Myanmar, UN Officials Urge

Senior United Nations officials on Thursday
strongly condemned the ongoing violence by Myanmar’s
security forces against civilians, including children, as
the members of the Security Council expressed alarm at the
rapidly deteriorating situation in the
country.
Hundreds of civilians, including at
least 44 children (as of 31 March) have been killed in the
crackdown across the country, including a 7-year-old girl,
who was shot while in her home. Countless more have been
seriously injured, since the military
coup on 1 February.
They also called on the
military to stop the detention of children as clearly stated
in the Convention on the Rights of the Child, amid reports ....

Disruptions in health services due to COVID-19 “may
have contributed to an additional 239,000 child and maternal
deaths in South Asia” - New UN report
Health
services must urgently be restored and strengthened to
contain the pandemic’s impact on the most vulnerable
families
Kathmandu/Bangkok/New Delhi, 17 March
2021: Drastic cuts in the availability and use of essential
public health services across South Asia due to COVID-19 may
have contributed to an estimated 228,000 additional child
deaths in 2020, according to a new United Nations report.
Around 11,000 additional maternal deaths are also
expected.

been closed and many vital health and nutrition programmes ....

Youth Week 2021 creates intentional space for young
people to lead and respond to their own wellbeing and that
of their whānau and communities. This contrasts the recent
negative focus on young people as ‘flouters’ of COVID
guidelines during the recent Level 3 lockdown in
