LOWNDES COUNTY, Ala. (WSFA) - A scholarship in memory of fallen Sheriff John âBig Johnâ Williams was announced Wednesday afternoon.
Williams was killed in 2019. The Scholarship was created by the Childrenâs Policy Council, which he was a longtime member.
Applications have already made available through the Lowndes County Public School System and Lowndes Academy.
âJohn was passionate about children in Lowndes County. He was a fixture at all of our school events throughout the county. You would always see him at the basketball games, the football games. The children in this county loved him. And so this is our way to honor his memory each year by awarding this scholarship and by supporting the children of ....

Retired Army First Sgt. Kenneth Paschal is a candidate for the Republican nomination in Alabama House District 73.

Retired Army First Sgt. Kenneth Paschal will run for the Republican nomination in the special election in Alabama House District 73, which represents part of Shelby County.
Paschal served 21 years in the Army and received 11 awards, including the Meritorious Service and Global War on Terrorism Service Medals, according to a press release.
“After 21 years of service to my country and 11 years in service to my state, I wish to extend my tour of duty as an elected official where I can best serve my community,” Paschal said in a press release. ....
