As per the ministry of health and family welfare statistics, India needs 162,000 ICU beds to meet hospitalisation requirements arising from 300,000 new coronavirus cases per day, but has only 81,094 such units. The Centre and states have been trying to increase ICU beds.

India has half the number of intensive care unit (ICU) beds for Covid-19 patients required to address the surge in cases, currently well over 350,000 per day.
As per the ministry of health and family welfare statistics, India needs 162,000 ICU beds to meet hospitalisation requirements arising from 300,000 new coronavirus cases per day, but has only 81,094 such units.
