NASA has released video of the Ingenuity Mars helicopter’s second flight, a more ambitious test as the Jet Propulsion Laboratory team experiments with just what’s possible for powered aircraft on other planets. The test took place on April 22, adding several new elements to the flight-plan compared to the history first attempt made back on April 19.
Then, Ingenuity became the first example of powered, controlled flight of an aircraft on a different planet to our own. Although the helicopter – which traveled up to Mars in the belly of the Perseverance rover – carries no specific scientific instruments itself, future missions could use the results of its test flights to do aerial reconnaissance and more. ....

San Diego Business's Technology to Power Historic Mars Helicopter's Flight – NBC 7 San Diego

To power the to-be historic flight, Qualcomm used a technology similar to that of a drone’s or iRobot vacuum. That technology, called the Qualcomm Flight Platform, is about the size of a credit card.
A Southern California affair, Perseverance was built at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in Pasadena while Ingenuity’s technology was built in Sorrento Valley. The codes that make the rover helicopter’s flight possible will be sent from JPL to the Qualcomm-created platform ahead of time.
The Mars Perseverance Rover successfully landed on the red planet but for Qualcomm’s robotics team, the mission is just beginning. ....

SAN DIEGO San Diego s Qualcomm engineers designed what s described as the heart and the brains of the Ingenuity helicopter which will make its first flight on Mars Sunday, April 11.
This is the first powered flight on another planet. The Ingenuity helicopter will have the Qualcomm Flight Platform on board which includes a thumb-sized chipset processor and a credit card-sized flight platform.
News 8 spoke with Chris Pruetting, Qualcomm s Senior Director of Strategic Operations in Qualcomm s Government Technologies Group.
How do you fly on Mars? The previous rover missions gave us a pretty good understanding of the atmosphere and gravity and a whole host of factors that might come into play on Mars, Pruetting said. ....
