Vaccine clinics scheduled for 12 and older in Marquette County


MARQUETTE, MI    The Marquette County Health Department is offering vaccination clinics this week for anyone 12 and older. 
The clinics will be held Thursday at the NMU Northern Center, Friday at the Gwinn High School Gym and Saturday at the Northern Center.
Appointments for the clinics at Northern Michigan University can be made online at www.mqthealth.org. The Gwinn High School clinic will accept walk-ins from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., no appointment necessary.

PRICETON, MI – Samuel Mario Dozzi, 72, of Princeton, entered eternal life Tuesday evening, May 4, 2021, at Beaumont Hospital, in Troy, Michigan.
Sam was born February 21, 1949, in Ishpeming, to Felix and Laura (Capovilla) Dozzi and graduated from Gwinn High School, Class of 1968. He then earned two bachelor’s degrees from Michigan State University where he was a member of Phi Kappa Sigma; one in Social Studies and History and the other in Industrial Arts Education. He taught various courses in high school in Otsego before moving back to Gwinn.
Sam owned and operated Gwinn Mini Storage and co-owned and operated Video World in Gwinn. He was very talented with hands-on work in mechanics, building, woodworking and art working. He took graphic art design classes at Northern Michigan University and won awards at the national level for his screen-print work, some of which was done on his homemade paper. CARLSHEND, MI – Susanne “Cookie” Erickson, age 70, of Carlshend, entered eternal life Sunday, May 2, 2021, at home, in the loving care of her family.
Born August 31, 1950, in Benton, Illinois, a daughter of Charles and Naoma (Summers) West, Sue was raised in Benton, and later graduated from Gwinn High School. On December 8, 1969, Sue was united in marriage to Joseph Erickson, Sr. and together the couple established their home and began raising a family. Sue was a talented and creative cook and spent a lifetime in food service at various locations around Gwinn. Her longest service was with the Gwinn High School as head cook, from where she retired. Well known for her community involvement, she was very active in Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts, serving as a leader and camp staff member at Camp Hiawatha for 25 years as head cook. In the community, Sue’s service usually involved preparing and serving food. ....

NMU flags to be at half-staff Thursday | News, Sports, Jobs

MARQUETTE The Northern Michigan University flag will be lowered to half-staff Thursday in remembrance of NMU student Sandra Gibbons, who passed away April 16.
Gibbons, of Christmas, was raised in the central Upper Peninsula and graduated from Gwinn High School in 1992. According to an NMU email, she had a passion for the outdoors and worked in the tourism industry in Alaska and Oklahoma.
Gibbons was attending NMU to continue her education at the time of her death. She was a member of the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians. A full obituary can be found at www.bowermanfuneralhome.net/obituary/Sandra-Gibbons. ....

NEGAUNEE TOWNSHIP, MI – The final whistle blew way too early for Mike Adams, 67, on March 7, 2021, in Lakeland, FL.
Mike was born February 16, 1954, in Wiltshire, England, to Janet and Herbert Adams. Mike’s life was deeply influenced by his “Gwinn godfathers”. Mike graduated from Gwinn High School, Class of 1972, where he was known as ‘Big Boy’. Following school, he joined the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1975. Mike later received his Associate’s Degree from NMU and in 1988 married Dawn Moyle.
Mike retired from CCI, was a member of the Forsyth Township fire department for 30 years, and was the “Water Guy” for Negaunee Township. He enjoyed refereeing high school football and basketball for many years. Most recently, Mike was “employed” by the Detroit Tigers Spring Training organization in Lakeland, and was the beloved roadie of the Yam Haus band. ....
