The virtual event Safety at Sea by Tristar Group was held recently, with over 1,000 participants
Tristar Group, the global integrated energy logistics company currently operating across 21 countries, held its second annual Safety at Sea conference virtually on December 9. The inaugural conference was held in 2019 at the One & Only Royal Mirage in Dubai and addressed the importance of physical and mental wellbeing at sea.
The second event addressed over 1,000 attendees across the globe, with a number of officers and crew attending aboard their vessels.
Speakers from oil major Shell, global law firm Holman Fenwick Willan (HFW), Kuwait Oil Tanker Company (KOTC), Oman Shipping, Mission to Seafarers and Fleet Ship Management addressed issues that are at the top of seafarers mind during the Covid-19 pandemic - well-being, healthcare support and legal recourse. ....

The impact of Covid-19 on the attraction of a seafaring career

The poignant question of the impact of the pandemic on the attractiveness of seafaring as a career was asked by a member of the audience during the virtual conference session ‘Welfare & Training – People Sustainability’ part of Seatrade Maritime Middle East Virtual.
The impact of pandemic on crew change and the problems encountered by seafarers was explained by Toby Brooks, Deputy Director - Isle of Man Ship Registry.
“We’ve experienced first-hand the crew repatriation crisis, our attempt to review each case and support the needs of our seafarers have in some cases revealed a common truth. I think we’ve noticed in many ports there’s a clear disconnect between the maritime authorities and the border control authorities within the same country,” Brooks explained. ....

Moderated by Dr Malcolm Willingale, Director, Prospect Maritime Ltd and Training Specialist, Clarksons Platou and sponsored by Isle of Man Ship Registry, an international panel will address Welfare & Training; People Sustainablity in this hour-long session.
