Google announced on Thursday that it is launching a “Grow with Google Career Readiness for Reentry” program designed to offer job readiness and digital skill training for former prisoners.
The Grow with Google Career Readiness for Reentry program was created in partnership with the nonprofit organizations, including The Ladies of Hope Ministries (LOHM), Center for Employment Opportunities, Defy Ventures, Fortune Society, and The Last Mile, according to a blog post by LOHM founder Topeka Sam.
In her post, Sam says that “more than 600,000 people make the transition from prisons to the community each year” in the United States, and that “many face systemic barriers to entering the workforce.” ....

Google announces career and digital training initiative for formerly incarcerated individuals
Google today announced the launch of Grow with Google Career Readiness for Reentry. The initiative created in partnership with nonprofits The Last Mile, Center for Employment Opportunities (CEO), Defy Ventures, Fortune Society and The Ladies of Hope Ministries is designed to offer job readiness and digital skill training for formerly incarcerated individuals.
As the company notes in a blog post today, returning citizens have an unemployment rate 5x higher than the national average and returning citizens who are Black experience this at an even higher rate, due to discriminatory practices. In all, some 600,000 Americans attempt to make the transition from incarceration to employment every year. ....

In honor of Second Chance Month, Google has launched the Grow with Google Career Readiness for Reentry program. Through this program, the tech giant hopes to expand upon its already existing social justice initiatives.
Fueled by $40 million in grants from Google, the program will be led by the Center for Employment Opportunities, Defy Ventures, Fortune Society, Ladies of Hope Ministries and The Last Mile. These nonprofits will join together to teach participants how to search and apply for jobs online, how to make a resume using web-based tools and how to send professional emails.
Google s latest initiative is incredibly important for a population of formerly incarcerated people that are routinely marginalized. The Prison Policy Initiative reports that more than 60,000 people transition from the criminal justice system to everyday life each year. JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) - Google announced Thursday that 20 historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) are joining its career readiness program, including two in Mississippi: Alcorn State University and Tougaloo College.
The
Grow with Google HBCU Career Readiness Program is designed to prepare Black students for the workforce through digital skills workshops in HBCU career centers. The workshops will consist of design thinking, project management, and professional brand building.
The program is funded by a $1 million investment from the Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF) with an overall $15 million commitment from Google. ....
