No takers for 250 tonnes of fruits at auction
Lockdown has hit mango farmers of Rajapalayam and Srivilliputtur Taluks hard. There were no takers for their produce at a make-shift mango auction market in Rajapalayam on Wednesday.
The farmers have appealed to Virudhunagar district administration to exempt mango trading from lockdown rules.
President of Tamizhaga Vivasaigal Sangam N.A. Ramachandra Raja said the district administration shifted the auction market to New Bus Stand to prevent crowding and ensure social distancing.
However, when farmers from several villages in the two taluks took their produce to the market, there were not many takers as traders from Kerala and Madurai could not come due to the lockdown. ....

As citizens of an independent, democratic country, we are deeply disturbed by the number of cases under the Digital Security Act that seems to have been misused to harass and intimidate dissenting voices rather than to protect the rights of the people. According to Article 19, last year, 457 people have been held under this Act, including 75 journalists who have been prosecuted.
What is most disturbing is the draconian nature of this Act as many as 14 of the 20 sections of the Act are non-bailable. Although a judge can still decide to give bail if he or she wants to, we have seen how difficult it has been for many of the accused to get bail. ....

Former minister G. Chinna Reddy and AICC national spokesperson Sravan Dasoju have appealed to Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan to immediately scrap the ‘illegal’ faculty recruitment being done by the English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU).
Addressing a press conference here they said gross injustice is done to the OBCs in implementation of BC Reservation in the State and Central universities, including the EFLU, and constitutional rights are being deliberately violated. “BCs are not beggars and are only asking for their legitimate rights. All the institutions must implement 27% OBC Reservation without any further delay and the Congress Party is ready to fight on this sensitive issue to any extent,” they warn ....
