A 2016 internal document from the Sons of Confederate Veterans (SCV) organization lays out detailed tactics for members to use in preventing the removal of Confederate monuments and symbols, including lawsuits, rallies, media management and political campaigns.
The SCV is a neo-Confederate group dedicated to preserving what it sees as southern heritage, in particular Confederate statues and war memorials. That task has become far more controversial recently amid the rise of Black Lives Matter anti-racism protests, which frequently target such statues as memorials to racism and slavery. ....

Editorial: Mississippi, end Confederate Heritage Month

Mississippi Gov. Tate Reeves’ quiet declaration of April as Confederate Heritage Month in his state is a stinging reminder of how hard it is for all Americans to put away our collective racist legacy.
Reeves signed the proclamation earlier this month without fanfare, and its existence was virtually unknown until the Sons of Confederate Veterans Camp 265 Rankin Rough and Ready’s posted it on the group’s Facebook page. Virginia Beach Confederate Monument will remain in storage while the city weighs relocation options

Virginia Beach Confederate Monument will remain in storage while the city weighs relocation options
Alissa Skelton, The Virginian-Pilot
Virginia Beach’s Confederate Monument will remain in storage while the city weighs two pitches to relocate the statue.
Local Confederacy nonprofits and a Civil War battleground in the Shenandoah Valley are vying for the opportunity to take the monument off the city’s hands, but the council isn’t impressed with either option.
On Tuesday, a few members of the council said they would like to keep the statue in the area rather than relocating it 250 miles away.
But there’s one problem with that plan the local groups want the city to foot the bill for site preparation, relocation of the monument and for ongoing care and insurance of the monument. ....
