PHOENIX — The burden of figuring out Arizona’s affordable housing crisis has largely fallen on cities, non-profits, and charitable organizations.
The Arizona Housing Coalition, a non-profit that advocates for affordable housing policies, is looking for the state legislature to help.
“It needs a deliberate policy intervention to create more affordable housing,” said Executive Director Joan Serviss.
She believes one of the policies needs to be a state low-income housing tax credit that mimics the federal tax credit, “which has been responsible for a lot of the affordable housing multifamily housing that you see across the nation, and in Arizona,” Serviss said. ....

This February update focuses on our ongoing work: housing our homeless neighbors, creating new affordable housing, assisting renters, managing the City’s tax-foreclosed real estate portfolio, and helping Bostonians buy and maintain their homes.
Ending Homelessness
On January 27, Mayor Walsh and census volunteers participated in the City s
41st annual street count of those experiencing homelessness. The street count is part of the comprehensive census of homeless adults and families in emergency shelters, transitional housing, and domestic violence programs, and individuals staying outside in Boston each year.
Census organizers intentionally reduced the number of volunteers this year as a safety measure in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The street count also started later and did not include the usual kickoff event at City Hall in order to prevent volunteers from gathering as a lar ....

The struggle of affordable housing in Ithaca


ITHACA, NY There’s no denying the demand for housing in Ithaca. As a thriving college town full of great eats, scenic treats and friendly people to meet, Ithaca has consistently been recognized as one of the best cities to live in the U.S. But as more people want in, the law of supply and demand begins to take effect. 
In Ithaca, the cost of housing has continued to increase, while vacancy rates remain staggeringly low. What this suggests is that a lack of housing is driving up the prices of the existing market. Demand is high, but housing is scarce, so the prices go up.  ....

The Clarion opens and includes new home for Future Chefs


A 39 unit mixed-income, mixed-use development in the Grove Hall neighborhood will also be a new home to the youth development nonprofit, Future Chefs.
Mayor Martin J. Walsh, developer The Community Builders (TCB) and non-profit Future Chef’s today announced the opening of The Clarion, a mixed-income, mixed-use housing development in Grove Hall. This residence consists of 39 units of rental housing, including 32 income restricted units at a range of income levels and 7 market-rate units. The building includes 5,750 square feet of commercial space on the first floor which is the new home of Future Chefs, a youth development non-profit that uses a work-based learning model to engage teens in paid work to develop culinary and essential life skills, setting youth up for successful careers in any field they choose. The Clarion also meets rigorous energy-efficient goals and is a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold certified building. ....
