Legislative Black Caucus announces new leadership team

OKLAHOMA CITY The Oklahoma Legislative Black Caucus recently announced a new chair and vice-chair/treasurer to lead the caucus.
Rep. Jason Lowe, D-Oklahoma City, is the new Black Caucus chair. Lowe is in his third term as a state representative and has been a member of the Black Caucus since 2016.
He currently serves on the House Energy and Natural Resources, House Judiciary-Criminal, House Public Safety, State and Federal Redistricting, and the House Utilities committees. Lowe is also the secretary of the Oklahoma House Democratic Caucus.
Rep. Monroe Nichols, D-Tulsa, is the new Black Caucus vice chair and treasurer. Nichols is in his third term as a state representative and has been a member of the Black Caucus since 2016. He is the vice-chair of the State and Federal Redistricting Tulsa County Subcommittee. ....

Redistricting plans for Oklahoma s 101 House districts and 48 Senate districts are headed to Gov. Kevin Stitt s desk for approval.
With nearly unanimous support, the Oklahoma House and Senate gave final approval to two bills detailing how Oklahoma s legislative districts should look for the next decade.
Under the proposals, the Oklahoma City metropolitan area would gain one state House seat and one state Senate seat due to population growth.
However, the maps approved by the Oklahoma Legislature on Wednesday may not be the final maps that will take effect next year. Lawmakers may alter some legislative districts in a special legislative session this fall. ....

House Announces Redistricting Plan – Elk City Split No More

Because the 2020 census data has not yet been released, the maps released on Wednesday were drawn using data from the U.S. Census Bureau’s 2015-2019 American Community Survey. The ideal population was 38,939 for each House district and 81,935 for each Senate district, although state law allows for a variance of up to 5%.
The largest district is still House District 61 in the Panhandle and northwest Oklahoma, which grew from 7,981 square miles to 8,296 square miles. The smallest district is House District 93 in south Oklahoma City, which covers 6.21 square miles.
House Bill 1198, the bill containing the proposed House districts, begins the normal legislative process next week in the House State and Federal Redistricting Committee. It must be passed by the House and Senate and signed by the governor. ....
