Sam Washington is a Research Assistant with the Center’s Federal Fiscal Policy team. Previously, she interned for FairVote, the Pennsylvania Public Interest Research Group, and the Century Foundation. She also conducted research on the Affordable Care Act and racial prejudice with the University of Pennsylvania’s Department of Political Science. Sam has a B.A. in Politics, Philosophy, and Economics from the University of Pennsylvania School of Arts and Sciences.

Ebonyi attack: Osinbajo visits affected areas, says the dead will get justice

Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo has assured the people of Ebonyi State that the federal government will ensure that they get justice over the recent killings in Ishielu LGA of the state.
At least 15 people were killed on March 31, when gunmen invaded some communities in the state.
The attacks took place in Nkalaha, Obegu, Amazu, Nkalagu, and Umuhuali communities in Ishielu LGA.

Residents had accused herders of carrying out the attacks, but the police have not confirmed the identities of the perpetrators.
During a visit to the state on Sunday, Osinbajo urged the people not to take justice into their hands because “nobody knows where it will end”. ....

Biden Administration Should Withdraw All Approvals of Medicaid Work Requirements | Center on Budget and Policy Priorities

The Trump Administration approved policies in 13 state demonstration projects (or “waivers”) that take Medicaid coverage away from people who don’t comply with stringent work requirements. Implementation of all these policies is on hold due to litigation and the pandemic. Taking coverage away from enrollees or otherwise conditioning coverage on meeting a work requirement doesn’t further Medicaid’s purposes which demonstrations must do and accordingly, the Biden Administration should now withdraw all of the previous approvals.
The Biden Administration recently withdrew Arkansas’ and New Hampshire’s authority to continue these policies. It had previously notified all states with work requirement policies that it was considering withdrawing their demonstration approvals based on evidence that these restrictive policies cause significant harm to Medicaid enrollees and because the COVID-19 pandemic has “greatly increased the risk” of unintended cover ....
